sound, sight & sentiment in yellow springs, ohio

Summary; Forward On

The Why Here/Why Now Project was featured in the Yellow Springs News recently, which led to a landslide of activity and a back log of (potentially still interested!) participants. Many thanks to those of you who are waiting to review your content, and many thanks to those who have inquired but are not yet scheduled. I am just as excited about the potential of this modality as I was when I first started.

The article mentioned above actually led to me being employed by the Yellow Springs News (despite the current meme that newspapers are all being sucked into a black hole), so now I am covering the town in all kinds of ways. The good news is that I’m having a great time; the bad news is that I need to rethink the production aspect of this project (i.e., when three kids are in the house and the parrot won’t hush, it is very difficult to narrate a digital story).

The site is enjoying slow but steady traffic, and between 10 and twelve more participants are on the dock. I invested in a Sony PCM D-50 digital audio recorder (a major step up from my macbook pro’s internal mic), and am still happily shooting with my silent and lightweight consumer-grade Fuji FinePix s8000.

I hope to pick up the pace around here a bit as the village crawls out of a winter slumber, and have plans to take the project in some interesting directions. Stay tuned!
