After the sense of place assignment, the next task was to… well… get out and interview someone.

And boy, how we hedged against this inevitable act. I went about crafting this website, developing even bigger ideas than I had in its first conception, all the while knowing I was buying time… avoiding the interview.

Next, I was able to tenderly conform to other people’s schedules (because, of course, if someone is willing to talk about their life you don’t tell them when and how!) and this bought me another week or so.

Then it happened. The date was set, I arrived with Garage Band already opened in my computer, project named and saved. It was early in the morning, people were in their pajamas and we just started talking.

A few minutes later- as a momentary mental abstraction came over me- I was over the hump. Oh! I get it! This is just a conversation I can go back to. That’s all. It is a beautiful thing.
